WE ARE

Eurostat, one of the Directorates-General of the European Commission, is the statistical office of

the European Union. Eurostat’s mission is to provide high quality statistics and data on Europe.

Eurostat co-ordinates statistical activities at Union level and more particularly inside the

Commission.

Unit ESTAT.G.3 is responsible for providing high quality statistical information on Europe's

international trade in goods (ITGS). The statistical data on intra-EU and extra-EU trade in goods is

used by a wide range of Commission services to develop, implement and evaluate EU policies

closely related with potential economic growth and employment creation. The European Central

Bank uses the statistical data (in particular euro area data) produced by Unit G.3 for the conduct of

their monetary policy.

Unit G3 is organised in four teams, respectively in charge of:

- Data production, COMEXT and international cooperation with enlargement countries,

- Aggregated data production, data analysis, quality monitoring and dissemination,

- Methodology, legislation and international cooperation with international organisations,

- Micro-data exchanges.

The project involves the provision of technical support to the teams/areas in charge of micro-data

exchanges, and of the production of monthly and annual data on international trade in goods

WE PROPOSE

Unit ESTAT.G.3 is seeking to hire one administrative agent.

The position will consist of the provision of assistance to the administrator in charge of the

monthly micro-data exchange process in her/his principal activities (ensuring the smooth running of

the process, liaising with national statisticians, carrying out a monthly survey, and preparation of

documents). It will also involve the provision of assistance to the unit’s production team in the

monthly and annual statistical production processes, in the data validation, and in the metadata-

related work.

In addition, depending on her/his knowledge and skills, the successful candidate may contribute to

other tasks under the responsibility of Unit G.3.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for an administrative agent, preferably with at least three years of relevant

professional experience in the field of economics, finance and statistics.

Previous experience / knowledge in the following areas would be an asset for this position:

- processing of statistical data and metadata,

- international trade in goods statistics.

We are looking for a highly motivated colleague with a positive attitude and a strong sense of

responsibility and initiative.

The position requires a strong sense of responsibility, service-mindedness, commitment and

flexibility. We also expect thoroughness in work, the ability to work autonomously with a spirit of

initiative, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, even under time constraints.

In addition, clear and efficient communication skills, with a good oral and written command of

Qualifications:

In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least

- a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or

- a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other supporting documents).

Languages:

have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU 2

- AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

In accordance with Article 29 of the Staff Regulations, applications from Commission officials, officials from other Institutions, and laureates of competitions have priority 3. If these candidates do not best fit the requirements for the position, the Commission can recruit a temporary agent.

Salary at this grade

Basic monthly salary at AST-SC1 runs from €3,292 (step 1) to €3,725 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €39,504 to €44,700 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.

Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €527 per month at step 1 of AST-SC1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
