WE ARE

We are the “Information Security and Inspections” unit in the Security Directorate of the European

Commission. We deal with Information Security Policy, IT security inspections, classified information

protection, security clearances and screening of external contractors.

We manage several communication and information systems handling sensitive non classified

(CommisSign) and EU classified information (RUE-X, RTOP, SUE).

We assist the Crypto Distribution Authority of the European Commission in its duties and provide

crypto custodian services for the European Commission departments and services.

We operate multiple small data centres, including PKI and network infrastructure, virtualisation

infrastructure and servers. We provide PKI services for 40 000 users.

We deliver trainings to 1000’s of staff each year.

We are an innovative team and are constantly updating and renewing our services with new

technology and improved processes, we are actively experimenting with AI to improve the quality of

our service, and implementing modern IT service management solutions.

We work in small project teams, with a lot of autonomy, and a constant attention to security and

novel threats and attacks. We are constantly benchmarking and testing our solutions against

security standards.

WE PROPOSE

The position of a security assistant position who will be part of the security accreditation team and will contribute actively to the development of security accreditation artefacts and will perform security inspections in coordination with our in-house penetration testing team. 4HR/COM/2026/DS4/003

The security assistant will also contribute to the modernisation of the security accreditation process by implementing a new approach in line with the updated Security Notice addressing security accreditation of communication and information systems handling EU classified information.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for a structured, thorough and motivated colleague, comfortable with modern IT

technologies and office automation tools such as Word and Excel, and able to work in a classified

environment.

A good understanding of audit, inspection and CIS security accreditation processes, as well as of

information security methodologies, policies and standards, would be an asset.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical expertise in cybersecurity and

classified information systems, while contributing directly to strengthening the security and

resilience of the Institutions. It provides a strong foundation for developing a career in

cybersecurity, with exposure to both technical and security governance aspects.

The security assistant must either be a holder of a valid security clearance up to the level of

"SECRET UE/EU SECRET" or be willing to undergo the national security vetting procedure to obtain

one.

 Am I eligible to apply?

You must meet the following eligibility criteria when you validate your application :

Our rules provide that you can only be recruited as a temporary agent at the European Commission if you:

General criteria:

- Are a citizen of a Member State of the EU and enjoy full rights as a citizen

- Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by applicable laws concerning military service

- Are physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post

- Produce the appropriate character references as to suitability for the performance of the duties.

Qualifications:

In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least

- a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or

- a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other supporting documents).

Languages:

have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU 2

- AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

 What about the selection steps?

The post was published internally within the Commission, inter-institutionally, and brought to the attention of competition laureates.

In accordance with Article 29 of the Staff Regulations, applications from Commission officials, officials from other Institutions, and laureates of competitions have priority 3. If these candidates do not best fit the requirements for the position, the Commission can recruit a temporary agent.

For temporary agents under Article 2(a) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants , the

post is published directly on the EPSO website, without mandatory prior internal publication.

A selection panel will choose a limited number of candidates for interview, based on the CV and application form that they submitted.

Salary at this grade

Basic monthly salary at AST1 runs from €3,754 (step 1) to €4,248 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €45,048 to €50,976 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.

Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €601 per month at step 1 of AST1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
