WE ARE
The Directorate -General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) is responsible for developing and
implementing European policies in the transport field. Within DG MOVE, Directorate D covers
‘‘Waterborne transport”, embracing Maritime transport and Logistics, Maritime safety and well as
Ports, Security and Inland Navigation matters.
Unit D2, the Maritime Safety Unit, strives to develop and implement policies for the promotion of
quality shipping for the prevention of accidents and pollution caused by ships. The unit also leads
on decarbonisation of shipping internationally. It deals with all technical aspects of ships' safety,
safety of passengers and crews, marine pollution, the training and education of seafarers and
working conditions on board ships. It oversees the technological development of vessel traffic
monitoring and maritime surveillance at Union level in support of coastal States responsibilities, as
well as flag, including classification societies, and port State responsibilities.
The Unit is in charge of overall relations with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and of
EU coordination at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

WE PROPOSE
Unit D.2 of DG MOVE is seeking to hire a secretary to complete the team.
The position will consist of providing administrative support and secretarial assistance to the
colleagues in the unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for agenda and document
management, handling correspondence, managing mailing lists and functional mailboxes, and
coordinating contributions to briefings, speeches and other requests.

including room reservations, ordering supplies, and document preparation.
The secretary will also act as an information point, welcoming visitors and ensuring the smooth
flow of communication within the unit .
WE LOOK FOR
We are looking for a dynamic, results -oriented, and proactive colleague contributing to a positive
and collaborative working environment. The candidate should be able to work both independently
and as part of a team, effectively prioritising and coordinating tasks and supporting colleagues.
The ideal profile for the job is someone with at least two years of relevant experience in
operational and administrative support. The candidate should be well -versed in administrative
procedures at the European Commission, with the ability to manage records, documents and mail
handling effectively. The candidate should have proficiency in the most relevant EC IT tools (e.g.

You must meet the following eligibility criteria when you validate your application :
Our rules provide that you can only be recruited as a temporary agent at the European Commission if you:
General criteria:
• Are a citizen of a Member State of the EU and enjoy full rights as a citizen
• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by applicable laws concerning military service
• Are physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post
• Produce the appropriate character references as to suitability for the performance of the duties.
Qualifications:
In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least
• a level of post -secondary education attested by a diploma, or
• a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post -secondary
education , and appropriate professional experience of at least three years .
Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the
Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to
provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other
supporting documents).
Languages:
• have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the
EU 2
• AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU,
to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

The post was published internally within the Commission, inter -institutionally, and brought to the
attention of competition laureates.
In accordance with Article 29 of the Staff Regulations, applications from Commission officials,
officials from other Institutions , and laureates of competitions have priority 3. If these candidates do
not best fit the requirements for the position, the Commission can recruit a temporary agent.
For temporary agents under Article 2(a) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants , the
post is published directly on the EPSO website, without mandatory prior internal publication .
A selection panel will choose a limited number of candidates for interview, based on the CV and
application form that they submitted.
Salary at this grade
Basic monthly salary at AST-SC1 runs from €3,292 (step 1) to €3,725 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €39,504 to €44,700 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.
Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €527 per month at step 1 of AST-SC1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
