WE ARE
DG Trade and Economic Security is responsible for leading the EU’s common commercial policy, one
of the exclusive competences of the EU. Trade policy plays a critical role in enhancing the EU’s
economic competitiveness, shaping globalisation, and defending the EU from unfair trade practices
and threats to its economic security.
Unit TRADE.F.2 (Economic security instruments 1 - FDI Screening, outbound investment and anti -
coercion ) offers a dynamic and varied working environment, interacting with many different units in
DG Trade and Economic Security and other Commission services, EU Delegations, Member States
and EU businesses. The work provides an excellent overview of the new “security” instruments of
trade policy and their geopolitical dimension. It also gives a unique overview of investment activity in
sensitive sectors throughout the Union.
The Unit develops and implements EU rules and policies dealing with incoming and outbound
investment and responses to coercion by third countries. The successful candidate will be contributing
to the long -term prosperity, strategic autonomy and security of the European Union.
The unit’s day -to -day work covers: Implementing the F oreign Direct Investment (FDI) Screening
Framework (Regulation 2019/452) requiring extensive cooperation with Member States
representatives and with other Commission services and the EEAS; Policy development on outbound
EU investment and the implementation of the Anti -Coercion Instrument (Regulation 2023/2675).
In addition, the unit is also in charge of taking the necessary steps for the implementation of the
revised EU screening regulation, which will enter into application in 17 January 2028.
WE PROPOSE
We propose a secretary position with varied responsibilities in a friendly and stimulating working
environment in a dynamic unit.
The successful candidate will be providing administrative support to the unit’s tasks . They will be
supporting the Foreign Direct Investment screening team with case handling tasks (including the
management of the manual of procedures, monitoring of the FDI Functional Mailbox, Temporary
Repository submissions to and from Member States, FDI tracker and registration of FDI cases in 4

ARES. Also monitoring F2 Sec retariat and ACI Functional Mailbox and providing support with
organising Outbound expert group meetings and managing contacts with the group.
WE LOOK FOR
We are looking for a proactive team member, able to work independently and ensure respect for
applicable administrative procedures and deadlines as well as the necessary coordination with Expert
Groups , while assisting the responsible policy officers.
Work experience in the EU institutions and a familiarity with working methods is an advantage.
We are seeking a well -structured and dynamic colleague with secretarial experience, and very good
coordination, administrative and inter -personal skills. S/he should have very good organisational
skills, a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to deal with sensitive/confidential information.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with Commission IT tools (Decide, ARES, MIPS, SYSPER,
BASIS, SharePoint etc.) and possess a very good command of spoken and written English .
Familiarity with EU trade policy is an advantage.

Qualifications:
In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least
• a level of post -secondary education attested by a diploma, or

education , and appropriate professional experience of at least three years .
Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the
Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to
provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other
supporting documents).

Salary at this grade
Basic monthly salary at AST-SC1 runs from €3,292 (step 1) to €3,725 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €39,504 to €44,700 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.
Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €527 per month at step 1 of AST-SC1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
