WE ARE
Unit H.6 ‘Agriculture and Fisheries’ belongs to Directorate H ‘State aid: General Scrutiny and
Enforcement’ in DG COMP.
The unit is in charge of the development and the application of the State aid rules for the
agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors.
The Unit liaises closely with the Directorates General for Agriculture and Rural Development as
well as Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in respect of the link between the State aid rules on the
one hand and the Common Agricultural and Common Fisheries Policies on the other.
The unit works in close interaction with other units of Directorate H and is part of the wider
‘State aid Network’ within DG COMP.
We are a very nice and dynamic team consisting of 22 persons (the Head and Deputy Head of
Unit, 17 case handlers, 2 assistants and 1 trainee). Our team is committed to achieve high-
quality output. At the same time, we give special attention to maintain a working environment
that is pleasant, motivating and productive.
WE PROPOSE
We are proposing a position as administrative assistant/case assistant in State aid. The
successful candidate will, together with another colleague, assist case managers and case
handlers in the treatment of state aid cases (e.g. preparing documents, handling mail,
requesting and managing translations, monitoring deadlines, preparing and launching inter-
service consultations and ensuring the adoption of decisions). The successful candidate will also,
together with another colleague, provide general administrative support to the Head and Deputy
Head of Unit as well as the other members of the unit (e.g. organising meetings with Member
States and other stakeholders, preparation of missions, organising the publication of vacancies
and provide support in selection procedures, ordering office supplies/equipment, as well as other
general administrative and logistic support as needed).

and the ability to work both as a member of a team and independently. Good IT skills are
required and familiarity with the standard Commission applications would be welcome. The
successful candidate should preferably have some administrative work experience.
The work involves contacts with other services, national authorities, companies and their
advisers and other Commission services, requiring good communication skills. The main working
language of the unit is English; knowledge of other Community languages is an asset.

Am I eligible to apply?

General criteria:
• Are a citizen of a Member State of the EU and enjoy full rights as a citizen
• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by applicable laws concerning military service
• Are physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post
• Produce the appropriate character references as to suitability for the performance of the duties.
Qualifications:
In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least
• a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
• a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.
Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other supporting documents).
Languages:

have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU 2

Salary at this grade
Basic monthly salary at AST-SC1 runs from €3,292 (step 1) to €3,725 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €39,504 to €44,700 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.
Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €527 per month at step 1 of AST-SC1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
