WE ARE

DGT.C. 1. GA. 1 is one of two Irish Language Units in the Commission's Directorate -General for

Translation (DGT). The Unit specialises in the translation of communicative and legislative texts in

an expanding number of fields as required by the Commission's requesting services. The Unit also

actively participates in other DGT initiatives such as the Juvenes Translatores competition,

European Masters in Translation network, etc

WE PROPOSE

DGT.C.1.GA. 1 is seeking to hire one linguistic assistant , who will join a friendly, dynamic team and

will work in a predominantly Irish -speaking environment.

The position will consist of work in the Unit's secretariat involv ing a broad range of administrative

and linguistic responsibilities which will give the successful candidate an opportunity to master the

role of linguistic assistant with Irish, as well as a variety of tools and applications in a Directorate -

General known for its innovation in the IT field. Full training will of course be offered as necessary.

The successful candidate will be assigned directly to the Head of Unit.

WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for an organised, efficient and motivated person who w ill actively contribute to

providing linguistic assistance to the translation process, as well as general administrative support

to the Unit's translation team and management. The ideal profile for the job is someone with g ood

spoken and written Irish; good knowledge of English is also required and knowledge of any other EU

official language, French in particular, would be an advantage. IT proficiency is a must and you

should be able to integrate into a team, but also work independently and under pressure when

needed. You should be able and willing to work in a multicultural environment. Knowledge of

translation tools would be a n advantage as would experience of preprocessing jobs for translation

and finalizing texts for delivery. 4

## 1. Selection

➢ Am I eligible to apply?

You must meet the following eligibility criteria when you validate your application :

Our rules provide that you can only be recruited as a temporary agent at the European Commission if you:

General criteria:

• Are a citizen of a Member State of the EU and enjoy full rights as a citizen

• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by applicable laws concerning military service

• Are physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post

• Produce the appropriate character references as to suitability for the performance of the duties.

Qualifications:

In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least

• a level of post -secondary education attested by a diploma, or

• a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post -secondary

education , and appropriate professional experience of at least three years .

Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the

Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to

provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other

supporting documents).

have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the

➢ What about the selection steps?

The post was published internally within the Commission, inter -institutionally, and brought to the

attention of competition laureates.

In accordance with Article 29 of the Staff Regulations, applications from Commission officials,

officials from other Institutions , and laureates of competitions have priority 3. If these candidates do

not best fit the requirements for the position, the Commission can recruit a temporary agent.

For temporary agents under Article 2(a) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants , the

post is published directly on the EPSO website, without mandatory prior internal publication .

A selection panel will choose a limited number of candidates for interview, based on the CV and

application form that they submitted. Due to the large volume of applications , we may receive,

only candidates selected for the next step of the selection phase will be notified.

For operational reasons and in order to complete the selection procedure as quickly as possible in

the interest of the candidates and of the institution, the selection procedure will be carried out in

English and possibly in a nother language.

## 2. Recruitment

The candidate selected for recruitment will be requested to supply documentary evidence in

Salary at this grade

Basic monthly salary at AST1 runs from €3,754 (step 1) to €4,248 (top step), giving an annual range of roughly €45,048 to €50,976 before tax and allowances. Steps increase automatically every two years; the figures here are taken from the salary grid in the EU Staff Regulations.

Eligible staff posted away from their country of nationality also receive an expatriation allowance worth 16% of basic salary (around €601 per month at step 1 of AST1) together with household, dependent-child, and education allowances where applicable.
