The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment's High-Level Trigger, as deployed during the LHC's 2009-2026 running period, reconstructs high-energy proton-proton collision events using detector conditions that often lag behind the best available calibrations. Your profile

- Experience in the design, development, and validation of calibration workflows for high-energy physics experiments. - Knowledge and application of Python and C++ programming, as well as database management systems. - Experience with Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) systems, including their hardware and associated tools. - Practical experience developing software algorithms within an integrated framework. - Proficient use of software development tools (e.g. GitHub, GitLab) and continuous integration practices.

Skills

- Knowledge of modern Git, Python, and C++. - Basic knowledge of DevOps and Continuous Integration (CI). - Familiarity with high-energy collider and detector operations. - Basic knowledge of high-energy physics. - Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Career trajectory

Career progression for this grade staff is governed by Articles 44 to 46 of the Staff Regulations (consolidated text on EUR-Lex) and Annex IB on the promotion procedure. Step increases are automatic every two years (Art. 44); grade promotion is competitive, based on the appraisal exercise (Art. 45) and the Career Development Review. For roles at CERN, progression to the next grade typically takes three to five years on merit, with two-yearly step increases in between. Lateral moves between Directorates-General reset the seniority clock for promotion only if the new post carries a different grade.
