Secure. Scalable. Cloud-First.

Are you excited by designing secure, high-performance cloud networks at enterprise scale? Do you enjoy working across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, enabling developers while keeping security and resilience front and centre?

We’re looking for a Cloud Network Engineer to help shape and run the network foundations of our cloud platform — with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure, enterprise connectivity, and perimeter security. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your designs directly enable product teams to move fast without compromising safety or stability.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting cloud network services that underpin our wider platform and application estate. Day to day, you’ll:

* Design and support secure, scalable Azure network architectures across landing zones, subscriptions, and tenants * Enable hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity, including peering and enterprise integration * Deliver a “golden path” for developers, balancing security, usability, and velocity * Implement strong network segregation using VNets, NSGs, routing, and security appliances * Own and improve perimeter and edge services, including:

* Web Application Firewalls (SaaS, on-prem, and Azure-native) * DDoS protection * SSL VPNs * Load balancing, including Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB)

* Work with firewalls and threat-prevention platforms (Microsoft, Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco) * Support identity and access flows where they intersect with network design * Collaborate closely with managed service providers and professional service partners * Design with non-functional requirements in mind: security, availability, scalability, and performance

What we’re looking for

You’re a networking professional who’s comfortable operating in modern cloud-first environments, with a solid grounding in enterprise networking principles.

You’ll bring:

* Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud network technologies * Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure networking * Experience working in hybrid and/or multi-cloud environments * A solid understanding of enterprise networking fundamentals (routing, switching, security) * Experience working alongside managed service providers or delivery partners * A security-first mindset, with practical experience across perimeter and network security services

Certifications (or working towards):

* Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (or equivalent) * Cisco CCNP or similar enterprise networking certification * ITIL Foundation (or basic service management knowledge)

Why join us?

* Design and operate enterprise-scale cloud networks with real business impact * Influence cloud-first network strategy, not just day-to-day operations * Work in a role that blends deep technical hands-on work with architecture and design * Collaborate with skilled engineers, platform teams, and security specialists * Help build secure foundations that enable teams to move faster and safer

If you’re passionate about cloud networking, security, and building platforms that scale, we’d love to hear from you.

Career trajectory

Career progression for this grade staff is governed by Articles 44 to 46 of the Staff Regulations (consolidated text on EUR-Lex) and Annex IB on the promotion procedure. Step increases are automatic every two years (Art. 44); grade promotion is competitive, based on the appraisal exercise (Art. 45) and the Career Development Review. For roles at EBRD, progression to the next grade typically takes three to five years on merit, with two-yearly step increases in between. Article 46 governs the classification at recruitment, which sets the starting step within the grade (usually step 1 for external recruits without prior EU service, step 2 or 3 where relevant professional experience is recognised).
Mobility within the institutions is encouraged via the inter-institutional and intra-institutional vacancy publication system: temporary agents who pass the probation period and reservists from EPSO laureate lists can typically apply to internal vacancies after one year of service. Lateral moves between Directorates-General reset the seniority clock for promotion only if the new post carries a different grade.

Language profile

Beyond the formal language requirements stated in the vacancy notice, the day-to-day working languages at this employer are English and French in roughly equal measure, with German appearing in some technical files. Internal meetings and most policy drafting in Brussels run in English; French remains the preferred internal language in Luxembourg-based services and parts of DG TRADE.

Application cadence

EBRD has not advertised another comparable role with the same grade and subject signature in the past twenty-four months. This opening has rarely been seen on the EU Careers feed and may be the first such posting in our two-year window. Applicants who pass the eligibility checks should not assume the same profile will reopen on a predictable cadence.
