Function Group III (FG III) is a contract agent category for executive and technical tasks. FG III staff handle accounting, technical support, project assistance, communication, and other tasks requiring a post-secondary education or equivalent experience. The current FG III basic monthly salary ranges from approximately EUR 2,675 to EUR 4,285. FG III is one of the most commonly recruited contract agent levels, with positions available across most EU institutions and agencies.
How to Get a FG III Position
FG III positions are filled through the EPSO CAST Permanent process or through direct recruitment by agencies. The CAST process involves registration, computer-based reasoning tests, and subsequent recruitment by interested institutions. Many EU agencies also advertise FG III positions directly, with selection processes including written tests, competency-based interviews, and sometimes practical assessments.
FG III Career Progression
FG III contract agents progress through salary steps with regular increases. Promotion to FG IV requires passing a new selection process. Many FG III staff build long careers at this level, particularly in executive agencies and decentralized agencies where contract agent positions form the backbone of the workforce. Transitioning to temporary agent or permanent official status is possible through EPSO competitions.
Requirements
A post-secondary education diploma (at least one year of post-secondary study) or a secondary education diploma plus three years of relevant professional experience. Knowledge of at least two EU official languages is required.
